Battlehawks Week 1 ReKAWp

SHOW NOTES:

Best place to start is with AJ McCarron

  • He didn’t play nearly as badly as I thought he did.

  • Most (if not all) of the miscommunications were on the other guys

    • Timeout wasted by Kareen Walker not knowing the play.

  • 18/26. 190. 2 Touchdowns.

    • 11/14 144. 2 TD in 4q

    • 7/12 36 (>5 yards average)

  • 2 of the 3 misses in 4q were overthrows, 1 was Ateman not coming down with the ball.

  • Knew where to drift, knew when to go down.

    • Good for his sustainability

  • 5  sacks for 23 yards is bad sustainability

  • 4 scrambles for 12 yards

    • Probably ran 500 yards NGS.

  • 8 or 9 plays that were disasters

Running backs

  • Brian Hill should not be returning kicks.

    • 6 for 55, long of 40

    • 3 for 26 receiving

  • Mateo Durant

    • 3 for 0, long 1. Average yardage was 0

    • 3 for 6 receiving

      • average of 2, means one was for 0 or negative yards

  • Kareem Walker

    • This guy

    • 2 for 1

    • 1 for 4 receiving

    • Doesn’t know the plays (I assume)

      • Being told his routes

      • Being told his motions

        • 3rd down, had to use a time out

          • In depth description of the play and aftermath

        • Extra point, he motions right. Blown-up play.

      • Bad player

        • Shit effort on a screen

Wide Receivers

  • I wish we knew what we had

    • Mostly a bad thing

    • A little bit of a good thing

      • 8 different receivers with a catch

      • 3 guys with targets and no receptions

  • Austin Proehl

    • He’s good. 4 for 49, (caught all 4 targets) 1 td, 1 3 pt

    • 22 yards on the 4th and 15

      • 2 defenders at the sticks

      • Found a hole right behind them and sat down

      • Waves in the catch

    • One of the only WR to see the field correctly

  • Hakeem Butler

    • He’s good and reliable

    • 3 for 32 (caught all three targets) 32 yards

    • Big time contested catch for the first touchdown

  • Marcell Ateman

    • 2 for 4, 45 yards

    • Size is great, I want to see more

    • Great body control to get the one foot in

  • Would be sick to not have to throw to runningbacks on dumps offs, but here we are.

  • McCarron might not be able to get the ball out quick

    • Who’s fault is that?

  • Other receivers

    • Sutherland (TE) played great

      • 21 yards right after the forced fumble

      • Weird play in the 4th Q when McCarron misses him, maybe? (could be Shepherd)

    • Jennings had trouble reading the coverage on a pivotal 3rd down

Offensive Line

  • Great example of how not to do your job.

  • No one looked good

    • LG was okay, then shit the bed the next play, same with everyone

      • He got taken out for a second

  • Not just bad on pass pro was a catastrophe for 94% of plays.

    • 1Q, 2:22, 2nd and 10 play description

    • 1st drive of 3rd quarter, 8 yard sack on 3rd down.

  • A few new guys came in on one drive (ended in a missed field goal)

    • Blocked well, B. Hill 40 yard run.

  • 3 plays in the last 2 drives they blocked well.

    • 1 3 rushers and 2 4 rushers

  • Bad all around, might be a bigger issue than just something time can help

Offense as a Whole

  • It was bad, except for whe it was good, which was just such a small amount

    • Play calling was good

    • Execution was so close to being the worst.

    • God I hope no one ever blitzes ever

Defensive Line

  • Kind of hard to judge this one because of

1: All the injuries SA had on the offensive line

2: On the field forever

3: Their offensive line might’ve been having the same things going on

  • Travis MF Feeney.

    • No one roots for injuries… except for SA’s left tackle

    • Great pressure for the the 20 minutes he played.

    • Strip sack

  • Kevin Atkins #90

    • Constant pressure in the middle

    • Bully ball

  • LaCale London

    • Sack on the last play

  • Defensive line played well as a whole

    • No another sacks other than the Strip sack and the last play of the game

      • Shout out to Jack Coan for evading pressure like that

Linebackers

  • You can only be happy about what they did

    • 38 minutes with very short breaks

    • SA ran the ball 39 times

  • Limited big runs until later in the game

  • Stayed STRONG in the the RZ

    • Gave up no throws to the middle

  • 3 guys with TFLs

Defensive Backs

  • Nate Meadors!

    • Int on the first drive

      • Tip drill

      • Right place, right time

      • Great hands on the ball

  • Elijah Hamilton

    • Confirmed dude

    • 2 tackles, both TFL

  • Completions

    • Mostly Underneath

    • Safeties showed some lack of discipline during Scramble drills for big gains

    • Coan hit 9 different guys

    • Never really forced incompletions

    • Got LUCKY on the fake spike

Defense as a Whole

  • On the field forever

    • Maybe forgivable?

    • They did not break and butted up in the RZ

      • Only TD was after a 3 minute STL drive in Q4

  • Made Jack Coan play

    • Put it on the Shoulders of the QB = Good

    • A few missed tackles

      • Runningbacks

      • Wide receivers came down quick

        • Screen play to Akers was the exception

Ka Kaw of the week goes to Austin Proehl

  • Found the spots, made big catches, clutch

Uh Uh of the week goes to Jim Hermann

  • Decided to play prevent D in the last 2 minutes of the game
